Canada Health Journal is an online health information resource created to help people in Canada understand their health, navigate the healthcare system, and feel more confident when discussing medical concerns with their healthcare providers. Our mission is to make health information clear, practical, and relevant to everyday life in Canada.

We focus on topics that Canadians search for most often, including symptoms, chronic conditions, children’s health, mental health, prevention, and navigating the healthcare system. Our content is written in clear Canadian English and is designed to reflect how healthcare works in Canada, including primary care, specialist access, provincial coverage, walk-in clinics, and telehealth options.

Our goal is not to replace your family doctor, nurse practitioner, or specialist. Instead, we aim to help you feel more prepared, less anxious, and better informed when you seek care. We believe that better information leads to better decisions and better outcomes.

How We Create Content

All articles follow a structured, multi-step process:

• We select topics based on what Canadians search for and what is commonly seen in primary care, emergency care, and virtual care.
• We create a first draft using clear structure: introduction, symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, prevention, and when to seek medical help.
• We review each article for clarity, tone, consistency, and balance, ensuring that risks and benefits are presented accurately and realistically.
• Articles that include diagnoses, treatments, medications, or procedures may be reviewed by our internal Medical Review Board.

Medical Review Board

The Canada Health Journal Medical Review Board includes licensed clinicians from different areas of practice. Their role is to review selected articles to ensure they are generally consistent with mainstream, evidence-based medical practice in Canada. They help identify statements that may be unclear, outdated, or potentially misleading, and they guide improvements to accuracy and safety.

The Medical Review Board may include professionals such as:
family physicians, pediatricians, internal medicine specialists, emergency medicine clinicians, mental health clinicians, nurses, and pharmacists.

Medical reviewers do not provide individual medical advice and do not establish a doctor-patient relationship with readers. Their role is editorial: to help improve medical accuracy, balance, and clarity.

Editorial Standards

Our editorial values are built around clarity, safety, and transparency. We strive to:

• Keep content evidence-informed and aligned with reputable guidelines.
• Use respectful, non-stigmatizing, inclusive language.
• Avoid exaggerated claims and maintain a balanced perspective.
• Provide clear guidance on when to seek medical care, including urgent or emergency care.
• Update articles when new information, guidelines, or feedback become available.
